Which is the Better 14-inch Gaming Laptop?

The gaming industry is peaking at an all-time high and there are no visible signs of it going down anytime soon. These days, all types of games are getting more and more popular. There are the usual FPS or sports simulation games that have spawned incredibly successful franchises.

Razer Blade 14 vs ASUS Zephyrus G14

There are also the ever-popular team-based strategy games like DOTA 2 that have inspired professional leagues all around the world. Even industries like the gambling industry have made the shift to digital platforms by offering live casino games on their websites. The gaming industry is so vast and there’s practically a game for everyone. This is all possible because the hardware components that have been coming up over the years have been quite impressive as well.

In the past, when people thought of serious gamers, they would always envision these immensely complicated computer setups or those overly bulky laptops that look like they came out of a Chernobyl site. However, many laptop manufacturers these days understand that the consumers aren’t just looking for pure gaming devices anymore.

More consumers want to make the most out of their laptops by maximizing their usage. More than just using their computers for games, they want laptops that they can use professionally. These laptops have to be presentable when brought into meetings or whatnot. In other words, laptops these days are designed to look more like normal laptops despite having some very intense gaming specs. No two laptop models embody this better than the Razer Blade 14 and the ASUS Zephyrus G14.

The reason that many people are pitting these two laptops against each other is because Razer has come out with a laptop that runs on a Ryzen processor for the first time. Another reason why these two laptop models are so popular is because they fall right in the sweet spot when it comes to size. With 14-inch screens, both these laptops come in a form factors that is small enough for them to be comfortably mobile while also being sizeable enough to actually game on. In this article, we are going to go over the specs, similarities, and differences between each laptop model and see which one is best for gaming. Size and Weight

When it comes to size and weight, there isn’t really much difference between the two. They both weigh roughly around 1.7kg, which makes it a sweet spot for both models in terms of mobility. However, the Razer Blade 14 is a bit thinner coming in at 3mm thinner than the Asus G14.

Processing Power

Again, as previously mentioned, the Razer Blade 14 is now running on an AMD Ryzen processor just like the Asus Zephyrus G14. Both models are equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900 chip, one of the fastest CPUs in the market today. However, where both laptops differ is their GPU performance.

The current Zephyrus G14 is only capable of supporting the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics cards up to 80W. However, the top-end models of the Razer Blade 14 are capable of running the GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards of up to 100W. That’s significantly much more graphics processing power on the side of the Razer Blade.

In terms of the display, both laptops have 14-inch screens. Also, both of them come in either 1080p or 1440p configurations. This was a good call on the part of both manufacturers, considering that 4K screens would be overkill on such a small screen.

However, the main difference between the two competing brands is that the Razer Blade 14 display is capable of supporting games of up to 165hz whereas the G14 can only do up to 120Hz at 1440p. However, on both models, the 1080p variant can support 144hz gaming.

I/O Ports

These two laptops also have very similar I/O ports. They both have two USB-A ports, a Kensington Lock, and 3.5mm audio jack. They both also have two USB-C ports. The only difference is that in the G14, only one of these USB-C ports support power delivery. Also, since it’s an AMD machine, neither of these laptops support Thunderbolt. Aside from that, the G14 has an HDMI 2.0b while the Blade 14 has the HDMI 2.1

In terms of specs, the Razer Blade definitely edges out the G14 in a variety of different ways. However, they perform relatively closely and the Blade is also a much more expensive machine. They are both great laptops with the G14 serving as the more affordable option.
